The Seizure First Aid Ready course educates the public on the Epilepsy Foundation’s basic procedures for responding to someone having a seizure.

This course aims to increase knowledge in applying seizure first aid and was designed for direct training of the public. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.

This page is for registering and completing the pre-course work for a live online or in-person instructor-led training (ILT). The pre-course work includes a demographic survey, knowledge, and self-confidence assessment, and access to the Zoom session registration link if applicable.


Interested in becoming Seizure First Aid Certified? 

Please enroll in the  Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification course if seeking a two-year certification in Seizure First Aid. Note: The Seizure First Aid  Ready course is shorter in length than the two-year Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification course and does not go into the same level of detail.  

 

Participants will be able to meet the following learning objectives:
Recognize common seizures
Identify correct and incorrect steps for helping a person having a seizure
Identify when it would be necessary to call emergency personnel (911) in the event of a seizure

Who Can Take The Course?

Anyone can take the course to learn about seizure first aid basics.

The Seizure First Aid Ready course is designed for people who:

  • Want to learn the basics of seizure first aid
  • Have a job where you work with the public or work with someone who has seizures
  • Coach or lead groups
  • Work, play or live in areas or settings where seizures could occur
How can I become Seizure First Aid Ready?

Register for a LIVE instructor-led training session by clicking the purple “Register for Live Session” button above. (If you are taking the training with others, each person needs to enroll separately.)  

You will be prompted to create an account on Epilepsy Learning Portal or sign in to your account. Save your login credentials for the post-assessment.  

BEFORE attending a LIVE instructor-led training: 

Complete the pre-course assessment, which includes a demographic survey, knowledge, and self-confidence assessment here on the Epilepsy Learning Portal (ELP).  

If attending a LIVE webinar session, please get in touch with the sponsoring organization directly if you don’t have the LIVE webinar session link for the session you plan to attend.   

Day of the LIVE instructor-led training: 

Attend the LIVE instructor-led training. Please arrive on time and allow 30 minutes to attend the live session. 

 Stay to the end of the LIVE session to receive instructions and a link to access the post-course assessments and evaluation. 

AFTER attending the LIVE instructor-led training: 

Use the link or QR code provided at the end of the LIVE instructor-led training to complete the post-course assessment and evaluation on the Epilepsy Learning Portal (ELP). 

Are There Any Prerequisites To Take The Course?
There are no prerequisites to take the course.
What Materials Or Equipment Do I Need To Take The Online Course?
You need access to a computer or device (smart phone, tablet, etc.) with reliable, high-speed internet. The browser must support JavaScript.
How Long Does It Take To Complete The Course Online?
Time to complete the course varies by each user. The course includes pre-course assessments, LIVE instructor-led training session, and post-assessments. Please allow 30 minutes to attend the live session.
Are Continuing Education Units Available?
Not at this time, please check back later.
How Do I Get Credit For Taking The Course?
Upon completing the course, you must complete the online modules and evaluation to receive a certificate of completion.
How Long Is The Post-Assessment?
The post-assessment consists of a few questions to assess your confidence in applying seizure first aid.
